As you probably know, not every skin reacts the same way to a perfume. There has to be a certain chemistry between the perfume and the person who wears it! But how do you know if your favourite perfume suits you? These are the steps you need to follow in your quest to find your perfect perfume, with a few tips to help you avoid making a mistake!

The olfactory diagnosis
Before you start, it’s best to do a quick olfactory diagnosis. Don’t be afraid to analyze the ingredients or olfactory families of the fragrances that you like or have worn before. Fragrantica is a reference guide that contains information on all the perfumes that exist (or have existed!). When you search for your perfume, you will discover its olfactory family, olfactory pyramid, as well as the most prominent ingredients in the composition. This will help you to find out which ingredients you like.
When you like light, fresh and airy perfumes, it’s rare that you will suddenly switch to very sweet and vanilla scents. So our advice to you is to take your time and try out several suggestions to determine your preferences.

Test on your skin to see if the perfume really suits you
This is the most important step. Once you’ve selected two or three perfumes that you like, try them on your skin. It’s best to apply one on each wrist so that you can compare them. Now, let them evolve over the course of the day.
At first, you’ll only smell the top notes, then gradually the middle notes, and finally, the base notes will take over. At each stage, pay close attention to any notes that are bothering you, and if you like the way the perfume is developing on your skin. Remember that the more concentrated a perfume is in natural ingredients (like our perfumes at Sillages Paris), the more it can evolve. This is due to your skin’s unique character (its pH, natural smell, etc.).

Readjust the concentration of a perfume that suits you

Our perfumes are highly concentrated and tested to last all day long on the skin. 🙂
If you have finally found your favourite perfume, but you find it too light, and after an hour you don’t smell it anymore, you should check the concentration of the eau de parfum or perfume extracts. (Or maybe quality is the issue. In this case, it’s better to change brands.)
But don’t worry! It’s normal not to smell your perfume after a while. There’s a phenomenon (inattentional smell blindness) that causes you to stop smelling your fragrance because your nose gets used to the smell. This is why you are constantly adapting to the olfactory environment you are in!

Trust yourself!
Our last tip to keep in mind is that you should trust yourself. If you like the smell of a perfume on your skin, and it makes you feel good about yourself, then just go for it because it’s the right one for you! 😉
