Layering box from Sillages Paris
Layering: a new Anglicism in vogue in the world of perfumery that refers to the stacking of several layers of perfume on top of each other. And the goal? To produce a personalized and unique trail 😉. But also to allow you to wear your perfume on all occasions: day and night, summer and winter… without having to buy ten different ones!
But what exactly is layering all about, and how do you successfully combine fragrances?
Simple layering:
You’re probably doing this one already. It involves combining one or more complementary products (an oil, a cream, a shower gel, a deodorant, etc.) that have the same scent as the perfume you’re wearing. Typically, it’s a matter of adding derivatives of your own perfume brand! You can’t really go wrong since the fragrances are similar. This type of layering allows you to intensify the smell and extend the hold of your perfume!
Ingredient layering:
This one is a bit more complicated (but not overly, so don’t worry), and it involves layering your perfume with a single ingredient.
At Sillages, we offer customers who come to the workshops a layering box that contains three very different olfactory ingredients: bergamot, vanilla, and jasmine.
All you have to do is add a spray of bergamot on top of your perfume if you want it to be fresher, fruitier, and tart. So, it’s ideal for the summer! Jasmine, on the other hand, will give a more floral and very sunny facet. We strongly recommended adding this ingredient because it combines well with all types of perfume! Moreover, if you like its smell, it can be worn on any occasion and will make your trail even more sensual 🙂.
And finally, the essential vanilla. This warm and captivating note, combined with your perfume, will create a commotion! If you like enveloping, sensual and sweet perfumes, don’t hesitate to combine this ingredient with your perfume. Vanilla is a base note, so it reveals itself slowly but lasts a very long time. Worn on a chilly winter evening, we guarantee that you will immediately feel warmed up and incredibly sexy!
Expert layering:
This is the art of layering two different perfumes to create a unique trail. It’s a good idea to start with fragrances that have at least one ingredient in common. Once you’re more experienced, it is possible (at your own risk) to combine two contrasting perfumes.
A little advice:
Choose two perfumes of the same intensity and concentration (eau de cologne, eau de toilette, or eau de parfum) so that one fragrance doesn’t completely “crush” the scent of the other one!
Start with the strongest perfume and finish with the lightest one to avoid the power of the first suffocating the delicate scent of the second.
The winning combinations:
Spices + sweet notes
Fresh notes + sweet ingredients
Fruity scents + floral scents
And notes from the same olfactory family (citrus, floral, woody, chypre, oriental, etc.).
Layering is a clever way to make your perfume more original, create a unique and original olfactory identity, and customize it according to your moods! So now it’s up to you to play 😉.
